Music is invaluable to human culture. It is a part of people's daily lives globally. It allows people to connect with each other and with themselves to discover a deeper meanings of human emotion and interaction. A musical mind forms necessary life skills such as self-discipline, self-expression, responsibility, patience, and teamwork. As an educator, my role is to provide a safe and welcoming environment for students to learn and grow. It is important for learning to take place in such an environment so that students are not only free to be themselves, but free to make mistakes. Understanding that making mistakes is how we learn is paramount.

Ultimately, my goal is to facilitate learning and discourse to assist students to be productive members of society. Through music, students will engage in activities that require them to be creative, disciplined, flexible, and work cooperatively; skills applicable to any pursuit in life. I strive to help them explore the emotions that various types of music bring them, and help them learn to articulate what they feel and why.  Through music we become educated about other cultures, learning there is more that connects us than divides us.

“Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness that most frightens us. We ask ourselves, 'Who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented, fabulous?' Actually, who are you not to be? You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won't feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine, as children do. We were born to make manifest the glory of God that is within us. It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone. And as we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others.”
